European Champions Cup kicks off this weekend and we look at the players who will be lighting up the tournament in round one. The Champions Cup kicks off this week as the best teams across Europe bid to book their place in the final at Murrayfield next May.Defending Champions Saracens kick-off their campaign with a tough away trip to Toulon, while last years runners-up Racing 92 host Munster on Sunday. We have plenty of live action this week and you can keep up to date with all the games on our live blogs. Here are just a few of the players we will be keeping a close eye on this weekend.Wasps v Zebre (Saturday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 12.30pm)Wasps will be looking for maximum points against Zebre on Saturday and this could get messy for the Italian club. Wasps are in superb form at the moment and have plenty of players on fire. Look out for wingers Frank Halai and Josh Bassett, who both should get on the score sheet.Ashley Johnson, who switched from flanker to hooker, is back in the backrow this week. A big ball carrier for Wasps, Johnson is also massive on defence and will be looking to put some of his traditional big hits in on Saturday. Zebres Andries Van Schalkwyk Zebre may not have won a game this season in the PRO12 but pushed Glasgow close last week. Their No 8 Andries Van Schalkwyk is a real workhorse and will do his best to try and make some inroads with his carrying against Wasps.Connacht v Toulouse (Saturday, Sky Sports 4 HD from 5.30pm) The defending PRO12 champions may not have had the best start to this seasons campaign but wins against Edinburgh and Ulster will have given them some confidence heading into this game. Connacht centre Bundee Aki Centre Bundee Aki is the man to look out for here - a rather quick powerhouse, he will relish running at the likes of Florian Fritz and Yann David. For Toulouse, lock Richie Gray is a world class player and has been in great form for them this season in the Top 14. On the bench, they also have Talalelei Gray (no relation to Richie!) who gives the Toulouse backrow a little more oomph and a little more balance. Toulouses Scottish lock Richie Gray (R) vies with Lyons players during the French Top 14 Toulouse are guilty of being a bit too pedestrian at times - relying on their heavy plodders - but Talalelei has got a lot of energy and a tremendous work rate.Northampton v Montpellier (Saturday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 5pm) The battle of the No 8s between Louis Picamoles and Pierre Spies is certainly going to be interesting. Picamoles loves to carry while Spies is more of a linking and offloading No 8. Louis Picamoles on the charge for Saints Winger George North is always exciting when he gets the ball and will be hoping his forwards can win enough front-foot ball for him to make the most of his skills. For Montpellier, flanker Jacques Du Plessis is outstanding. Hes all about the physicality and power game and is a one-man wrecking ball. Montpellier wing Nemani Nadolo takes on Pau full-back Charly Malie Another winger who will cause havoc if he gets enough ball is Nemani Nadolo - a massive man who can go around or through defences. Miles Harrison catches up with Northampton head coach Jim Mallinder ahead of their opening Champions Cup clash with Montpellier Bordeaux-Begles v Ulster (Sunday, Sky Sports 3 HD from 12.30pm) Its the battle of the Ireland No 10s as Ian Madigan and Paddy Jackson go head-to-head. They know each other pretty well and are both in excellent form for their respective clubs. Bordeaux-Begles fly-half Ian Madigan Scrum-half Baptiste Serin starts on the bench for Bordeaux but watch out when he does come on. Hes got amazing pace and loves to snipe around the fringes and darting through any holes. Its a big blow for Ulster that Charles Piutau is out injured but the good news is that Andrew Trimble is back and will skipper the side from the wing. Ulster wing Andrew Trimble with the Champions Cup Racing 92 v Munster (Sunday, Sky Sports 2 HD from 3pm) All the talk is about Dan Carter but Maxime Machenaud, Racings goal kicking No 9, is so crucial for them. He is the glue that holds them together and will play a key role in their campaign. Racing 92 scrum-half Maxime Machenaud in action against Clermont Camille Chat is another big player for Racing - he usually comes off the bench but he starts against Munster and expect plenty of barnstorming action from the hooker.Racings scrum is pretty impressive and Munster will really need to get on the front foot here if they can. Munsters CJ Stander Prop Dave Kilcoyne has passed his concussion assessment and will need to have a big game while CJ Stander will certainly be taking the fight to Racing 92. Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday he is promoting setup man Kyle Farnsworth to the ninth-inning role in place of struggling right-hander Jose Valverde, who has given up four home runs in his last three outings. Valverde got the job when Bobby Parnell went down with an elbow injury after blowing a save on opening day. Parnell had Tommy John surgery and is out for the season. Valverde has two saves in three chances and a 5.40 ERA. Farnsworth has a 1.23 ERA in eight appearances, throwing 6 1-3 scoreless innings in his past seven games. Both veteraans were signed to minor league contracts in February and added to the big league roster to shore up a suspect bullpen.ddddddddddddValverde broke camp with the team and Farnsworth was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas when Parnell went on the disabled list April 2. Collins said Valverde understood the move and he wants the three-time All-Star to start using other pitches besides his fastball. The 36-year-old Valverde, who has 288 career saves, agreed that he might need to throw his splitter more often. The 38-year-old Farnsworth has 54 major league saves, including two for Pittsburgh last year and a career-high 25 with Tampa Bay in 2011.
